Lot 1794
PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy II Philadelphos, 285-246 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 12.92 g, 12 h), uncertain mint in the Levante (Tyre?). Diademed head of Ptolemy I to right, wearing aegis around neck. Rev. [ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ] ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt. Cf. CPE 581 (similar style). Harshly cleaned and the obverse struck off center, otherwise, very fine.

From a Swiss collection of Ptolemaic coins, formed in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The lack of discernible mint marks makes this coin difficult to place, but stylistically, it is reminiscent of the issues from Tyre.
